Who wouldn’t want to beer bong on The Nile if you had the chance?

I met Peter and Warren rafting the day before who were up from South Africa selling wine for their wineries. Warren was the marketing manager at Guardian Peak and Peter’s family ran De Westhof Estate. That night we spent testing their products and they invited me along to go fishing the next day. We met captain Rob and set out to catch some *Nile Perch. It was a pretty sophisticated fishing trip as the boys brought some wine and cheese to enjoy out on the water. Lake Victoria has been extremely over fished and we were warned that pulling anything out would be difficult. That didn’t stop big Peter though from pulling out a whopping 20Kg Perch. I tried to pay the boys in the end for my part of the boat fees but Peter said no way as I had a lot longer trip in front of me.
Huge Cheers to you boys!

*Nile Perch is a huge fish found in Lake Victoria and the Nile that can weigh up to 200Kg.
Some of you might remember old Sammy from my adventures in Turkey. As I wrote back then he is one of those people you meet traveling that you know you will connect with later on in life in one way or another. When I found out that one of my layovers was in London I immediately sent him a message seeing if he was around. He of course said he would clear some beer cans off the couch so I could rest my weary head for a few nights. There was no time for Jetlag as I arrived on a Friday night that just happened to be Sam’s 27th birthday(I know I am surprised I am friends with such an oldie as well). He is looking pretty good for 27 and has even avoided the *Heathrow Injection so far.Even Alastair aka Big Bear from the Turkey cruise made it out. For the next four days we didn’t see much else except for the inside of pubs but I feel I got a true London experience, even though it was at the hands of a *JAFA. Here’s to the next time Sammy and I meet up around the globe but by that time he will have probably be on the wrong side of 30.

Everyone’s least favourite travel blogger is back! Check out the new video put together by my good friend Andrew Noon, hope you enjoy!
I decided to do a three-day layover in LA en route home. I contacted Zach, a friend I had met in Mozambique two summers ago and he let me crash at his place. His place was in West Hollywood and it took a while to get out there using the old public transit system. I managed to make it out to 11 bar with Zach and his boyfriend Bill and was introduced to show tunes night.
The next day Bill picked me up and we hiked up to the Hollywood sign. We managed to get lost on the way up but eventually made it to the top of LA. It was a little surreal to be so close to such an iconic sign, as tacky as it is. On the way back down we managed to take a wrong turn again and had to do a steep decent into somebody’s backyard, I think my urban abseiling came in handy! We rewarded ourselves with a beer at Barney’s Beanery before continuing our drive through Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
Bill dropped me off and I ventured out to Dodgers Stadium to see LA vs.Atlanta. I noticed there was an all you can eat section and bought a ticket immediately. $33 gets you a seat plus as many dodger dogs, nachos, peanuts and pop corn you can fit in over nine innings (and people wonder why North Americans are so overweight).
The next night ticked off another large item on the old bucket list. Emily (Zach’s roommate) and I went to Jones bar for dinner and then went to see a show at the Whisky a Go Go, for you music lovers out there this is the bar The Doors and Motley Crue got their start. Those being two of my favourite bands I had always wanted to have a drink in the place.
My quick stint in LA was definitely a success, but that is mostly because of the great company I had. A huge thank you to Zach, Bill and Emily for taking the time and being a tourist with me. I will hopefully see you later in the summer!

My run of good luck continued on my Australian tour. My friend Britt was living in Bondi Beach so I again had a couch to sleep on. It was my last weekend in Australia and Britt was determined to show me a good time. We ended up in Kings Cross both nights and took in the sights of the night. It was a great way to wrap up my time in the country as I look forward to my next adventure.

Lauren and I got up and drove down to Byron Bay. We went right up to the lighthouse which is the most Eastern part of Australia. Lauren was just supposed to stay for the day but I ended up convincing her to stay another night down there. We had to do a quick dress shop and then it was onto the hostel. I have said it before on here but there is nothing like seeing a face from home on your travels. Shawn Hetherington and I had been trying to track each other down in Australia for a while and then a day before my trip down to Byron he messaged me saying he worked in a hostel there.
Shawn and I gave each other a big hug and then got on the drinking for the night. Lauren, Shawn and I ended up at this insane bar called Cheeky Monkeys and anyone that has been to Byron before will know what I am talking about. The place was packed and instead of a flat dance floor it had grand stands. We of course went right to the top and took it all in. Shawn was in fine form ripping it up on the top, I did not know how he was going to work at 7 the next morning. (Shawn wanted to kill everyone in his path the next day) Next stop was table top dancing before we had our fill of being off the ground. I don’t know how there are not broken ankles or skulls every night in that place.
We spent the next day chilling at the beach until a nice rain storm chased us away. Despite my efforts Lauren had to go as she had a bunch of high school kids to teach the next day. Lauren took in this strange Canadian boy and showed me an amazing time on the coast. The laughs started the minute we got in the car and never stopped. I didn’t have to convince her on how awesome Canada was as she had already done a couple of seasons at Lake Louise it’s just getting her up again to a better mountain next time. Thanks Lauren for everything you were a blast, and look forward to seeing you in the Northern Hemisphere!

The horse races are a pretty big deal down in Australia with everyone putting on their best clothes and heading down to the track to hopefully make a buck or two. We woke up and my buddy Bazzo’s place and cooked a big breakfast to line our stomachs for the huge day we were about to have. (Beers and eggs are a fantastic combo FYI) We got all kitted up in our best attires and continued to our friend Matt’s place for the next pre drink venue. We got to the races just before noon and everyone was all dressed fancy and in a great mood. I tried following some instructions on the betting but my luck just didn’t seem to pan out; I might still have to keep my day job. We hit the town of Brisbane afterwards and showed the bar how to really dance. It was a long day by the end of it and surprised I lasted that long but I can’t wait until the next one.

6 months rolled by pretty quickly in New Zealand. I landed right in the middle of the Rugby World Cup and the party kept going right up to the last night with the boys. I saw some amazing things in the country and met some pretty bad ass folk. The weather wasn’t always the best in the little town of Wellington but it kept you on your toes as you always seemed to bump into that one person you hoped to avoid. I leave New Zealand knowing I will be back as it truly felt like a second home. I want to thank everyone who made my stay in this South Pacific nation amazing and look forward to seeing you again.
My life has officially been reduced to the size of a backpack again as I set out on my next set of adventures. The best part about these adventures though is the gravy train is once again at the station, see you soon Mom and Pops!
